How to Play Texas Hold'em Online With Friends

By eggverse · · 3 min read

Texas Hold’em illustrated game cover.

To play Texas Hold'em online with friends, join a shared table, keep your two private cards hidden, and make the best five card hand using those cards and the five shared cards. You can check, call, raise or fold as the hand develops. In eggverse, a friends table supports two to eight players and starts you with 500 free table chips.

The chips are separate from your eggverse wallet. This guide is about the game's free table chip format, not cash poker or ways to make money.

Get everyone to the same table

Open Texas Hold'em, choose Play with friends, share the room invitation, and ready up together. There is no download. Play solo is available for a first look at the controls.

Texas Hold’em solo practice against three bots: three shared flop cards on the table and your private nine and ace below.
Actual browser solo practice against bots. Your two cards stay private; the three flop cards are shared by the table.

Before starting, explain two things: a hand is only one deal, and winning a pot does not necessarily end the table. Blinds rise every five hands; the last egg with chips wins the game.

Private cards, shared cards, best five

Your two private cards belong to you. The shared cards in the middle are available to everyone. The flop is the first three shared cards, the turn adds a fourth, and the river adds the fifth. Betting decisions occur as the hand develops.

The winning showdown hand contains five cards, not all seven available cards. Do not count a pair in your hand and a different pair on the board as four matching cards: four of a kind means four cards of the same rank.

What do the buttons mean?

Hold’em actions
ActionMeaning
CheckStay in without adding a bet when checking is available
CallMatch the amount required to stay in
RaiseIncrease the bet
FoldLeave this hand; you do not have to leave the table

Use the amount displayed by the game before confirming. A call is not always the same number of chips from one decision to the next. On a computer, F folds, Space checks or calls, and R raises. Tab focuses controls and Enter selects them. Phones use on screen controls.

Learn one decision at a time

For a first table, teach the actions before discussing elaborate strategy. Ask the group to identify the shared cards and the current bet; then let each person make their own decision. Avoid telling another player what to do with a private hand while others are still competing in it.

Folding is a normal action. A newcomer who folds has learned a rule, not failed a lesson. If you are hosting a mixed experience group, agree that teasing about a decision stops when someone asks.

How many friends fit at the table?

Two to eight human players can share one table in the current version.

Is this the same as Speed?

No. Speed is a simultaneous two player race. Hold'em involves betting decisions and comparing hands.

Does winning one hand win the game?

No. A hand awards a pot. The published eggverse table format ends with the last funded egg; blinds rise every five hands.
