How to play Spoons online with friends
By eggverse · · 4 min read

To play Spoons online in eggverse, collect four cards of the same rank and take the first spoon. Once any spoon is gone, everyone can grab one, even without matching cards. There is one fewer spoon than eggs. Miss out, or grab before you qualify, and you are eliminated.
That is the rule to explain before inviting the friend who reads every card very carefully. Their hand might be beautiful. Their spoon might already be gone.
Play Spoons in your browser, or use the walkthrough below to learn passing, grabbing and what happens after a player is eliminated.
Set up your friends room
Open the Spoons page and choose Play with friends. Share the room invitation, then ready up together. Friends rooms support two to eight human players. A room with two human players adds two bots to fill the table.
Want to learn first? Choose Play solo to face three bots. The game runs in a browser, with keyboard controls on a computer and on screen controls on a phone.

Keep four cards and pass one left
Collect four cards with the same rank, such as four sevens. When an incoming card gives you five cards to choose from, pass one left and keep four. Tap the card you want to pass, or use the corresponding 1–5 key on a keyboard.
For example, suppose your hand is three sevens and an ace. A fourth seven arrives. Pass the ace, and the four cards you keep are all sevens. You now qualify to take the first spoon.
You can change which rank you are collecting as cards arrive. For a first game, concentrate on recognizing your set and finding the card you want to pass. Then glance at the spoons before making the next decision.

Watch for the first spoon to disappear
The first grab and every later grab have different requirements:
| Table state | Can you grab a spoon |
|---|---|
| All spoons are still available | Only if you have four cards of the same rank |
| Someone has taken the first spoon | Yes, even if your cards do not match |
On a keyboard, Space is the grab control. On a phone, use the on screen spoon control.
If you are still waiting for your fourth seven when a spoon disappears, you can stop waiting. Your matching set no longer determines whether you can grab. This is why a player watching the center of the table can stay in even when their hand is going nowhere.
Grabbing before you qualify eliminates you in eggverse’s version. Give new players a practice game to learn the change from passing cards to grabbing spoons.
Understand the four second automatic pass
An incoming card passes automatically after four seconds if you leave it alone. Cards keep moving even while you are deciding what to collect.
Tell your group about that timer before starting. Otherwise, an unwanted card disappearing can look like a missed input. If you are learning, try a simple rhythm: check the incoming card, choose what to pass, then look at the spoons.
Everyone is dealing with the same shortage of cutlery.
Know what elimination means
With four eggs at the table, there are three spoons. Once the grab begins, someone will be left without one. That player is eliminated, the remaining players continue with one fewer spoon in the next round, and the last egg wins.
Some tabletop rules work differently. Bicycle’s Spoons rules award a letter each time a player misses a spoon, with elimination after spelling S P O O N. eggverse uses elimination when you miss a spoon or grab before you qualify. Agree on the online rules instead of assuming your family’s version applies.
If someone gets knocked out early, use the break afterward to explain what happened. They may have understood collecting four cards perfectly and simply missed that everyone could grab after the first spoon went.
Quick answers for your first game
Do I always need four matching cards to take a spoon?
Only for the first spoon. After someone takes it, everyone can grab regardless of their hand.
Can two friends play Spoons online?
Yes. eggverse adds two bots when two human players join a friends room.
Can I practice alone?
Yes. Solo play puts you against three bots.
Why did my incoming card pass by itself?
Incoming cards pass automatically after four seconds if you do not choose a card to pass yourself.
Before the first round, give everyone the short version: collect four of a kind, watch for the first spoon, then grab. Open eggverse Spoons and see who keeps their eyes on the table.
