Halloween games to play online with friends this year
By EggVerse · · 5 min read

Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31 this year. If your friends are scattered, the easiest plan is one shared link and three short games: a co op game to warm up, a bluffing game for the middle, and something fast to finish. Everything below is free on EggVerse, runs in a browser on phones, tablets and computers, and holds up to eight players per room.
These are cartoon pixel art games about eggs, so they are spooky in the cosy way: graveyards, ghosts, lights going out and someone in the group who is not who they claim to be.
What to play, at a glance
| Game | The spooky part | Players | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spoiled Egg | Waves of rotten eggs in a dusk graveyard | Solo or 2 to 8 | One run lasts until the whole crew is down |
| Lights Out | A dark hill, ghosts and a rising darkness | Solo or 2 to 8 | Climb as far as you can; open ended |
| Bad Egg | A secret saboteur who turns the lights out | 4 to 8 | Up to eight minutes of house time per round |
| Incognitegg | Hiding in a crowd of costumed eggs | 2 to 8 | Up to 90 seconds of hiding and seeking per round, one round per player |
| Shellbound | One long night with names like Witching Hour | Solo or 2 to 8 | Until the relic breaks or the whole crew is down |
The picks, one by one
Spoiled Egg is the most Halloween of the lot. Your crew holds a graveyard against waves of rotten eggs that rise out of the ground. Crack them for scraps, spend scraps on weapons and perks, and open gates into new areas, knowing the horde follows you through. Bosses arrive with charges, slams and magic. A cracked teammate comes back at the campfire when the next wave starts, so nobody sits out for long, and the run only ends when the whole crew is down.
Lights Out is the gentle one, and the best fit if someone in your group dislikes shooters. The crew climbs a hill at night by carrying mirrors and bending lantern light onto every lamp to open the stairs. The ghosts only show up in the light, and the dark rises from the bottom of the hill. A friend caught by the dark is lost until someone relights them, which makes it a game about looking after each other.
Bad Egg is the one for a group that likes accusing each other. One player is secretly the bad egg, cracking the crew and putting out the lights while everyone else does chores around a house. Find a cracked egg and a meeting starts; then you vote. It needs at least four players, so save it for when everyone has arrived.
Incognitegg is hide and seek in a painted crowd, and on Halloween it plays like a costume party: hide in a red hat among thousands of eggs while one friend hunts with a magnifying lens. Shellbound is a co op defence game set over one long night that keeps getting darker, with creatures like moths and wisps and stretches named Wings in the Dark and Witching Hour.

Which games for how many people
- Just two or three of you: Spoiled Egg, Lights Out, Incognitegg or Shellbound. Bad Egg needs four.
- Four to eight: everything on the list, with Bad Egg as the centrepiece.
- More than eight: open a second room and split into two groups, then swap a few people between games.
A simple 45 minute Halloween plan
| When | Play | Why it goes here |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 5 minutes | Open the room and share the link | People arrive late; give them a moment to join and pick an egg |
| 5 to 15 minutes | Incognitegg | Everyone gets one turn as seeker, and nobody is knocked out early |
| 15 to 30 minutes | Spoiled Egg | Co op, so the whole group is on one side before the lying starts |
| 30 to 45 minutes | Bad Egg, or Lights Out with fewer than four | End on the loudest game, then stay on the call to argue about it |
Keep a voice or video call open alongside the games; that is where most of the fun happens. Costumes on camera are optional but encouraged. If your group has a newcomer, let them try a solo round first: Spoiled Egg, Lights Out and Shellbound can all be played alone, Bad Egg has a practice mode with bots, and Incognitegg lets you practise seeking against bots.
Halloween game night questions
What is a good Halloween game to play online with friends?
A co op survival game like Spoiled Egg is easy to start with, since everyone is on the same side. For a group of four or more, a social deduction game like Bad Egg brings the suspicion.
Are these games scary?
Not very. The settings are spooky, like a graveyard or a ghost filled hill, but everything is drawn as cartoon pixel art eggs. Try a solo round first if you are unsure.
Does everyone need to download something?
No. Everyone opens the same link in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
