Games like Flappy Bird you can play with friends

If you miss Flappy Bird and want something you can play with friends, look for one button games: a single input, one mistake ends the run, and a score your friends can try to beat. On EggVerse, Egg on the Run is the closest match, a fly and dodge game through moving pipes for up to eight players. Frost Hop, Shadow Step and Egg Stack keep the one button idea with a different twist each. All four are free in the browser.

What made Flappy Bird work

Flappy Bird came out in 2013 and was pulled from the app stores by its creator in early 2014. The design was tiny: tap to flap, gravity pulls you down, and a gap in each pair of pipes is the only way through. Touch anything and the run ends. Because there was nothing else to learn, every failure felt like your own fault, and every retry felt like it could be the one.

Games in the same family share three traits. The input is a single button or tap. Timing matters more than speed. And a round is short enough that trying again costs nothing. Playing with friends adds the one thing the original lacked: someone to beat right now, not just a number on a leaderboard.

Egg on the Run: the closest to Flappy Bird

Egg on the Run has the pipes, the gaps and the one shell, one chance rule. The control is a little different: instead of tapping to flap, you hold Space, Up or W to rise and let go to fall. On a phone, hold the screen. Holding gives you finer control over height than tapping, which helps once the pipes are moving and forks are flying at you.

With friends, two to eight eggs fly the same course from the same start. You see everyone on one screen, drawn see through, but nobody can collide, so a friend can never block your gap. Every player gets the same gaps and coins in the same order, and the highest score when the round ends wins. If you crash early, you can watch a friend who is still flying.

Frost Hop: one button, more patience

Frost Hop swaps flapping for a charged jump. Hold Space, or hold the screen, to charge, then release to hop onto the next ice floe. Charge too little and you fall short; too much and you overshoot. There is no finish line and only one life: miss a landing or let the ice crack under you and the run ends. Each new floe you reach counts once, so the score is simply how far you got.

Shadow Step: one tap, faster every second

Shadow Step is an endless climb between two walls. Press Space or tap Swap to jump to the other wall, swapping places with your shadow to dodge whatever is coming. The climb keeps getting faster, and one unprotected hit cracks your egg. Teal vents give you an updraft, and rare pickups give you a shield or a Shadow Surge that carries you through danger. In a friends room, one egg grabbing a pickup gives that power to every living player, so it plays more like a team climb than a race.

Egg Stack: one tap, shared pressure

Egg Stack is the slow one of the group. A moving egg passes above your tower; wait until it lines up, then tap the playfield or press Space to drop it. Line up each landing to keep the tower balanced. With friends, everyone takes turns on the same tower, which makes every drop a little tense: nobody wants to be the one who topples it.

Tips for one button games

  • Use small inputs. Short holds and light taps keep you near the middle of a gap, where you have room to correct.
  • Look ahead. Watch the next obstacle, not your own character.
  • Find the rhythm. Most of these games repeat a beat; counting it in your head helps more than reacting.
  • Reset calmly. Runs are short. Take a breath before the next one rather than slamming retry.

To play together, open any of these game pages, choose Play with friends and share the invite link in your group chat. Everyone joins from their own phone, tablet or computer.

Questions people ask

Can you play Flappy Bird with friends?

The original was a single player game. Egg on the Run plays in a similar way and lets two to eight friends fly the same course at the same time.

What is a one button game?

A game controlled by a single input, such as a tap, a hold or one key. The challenge comes from timing rather than complex controls.

Do my friends need to download anything?

No. These games run in the browser, so a shared link is enough.
