Bubble shooter tips: how to aim, bank shots and drop whole clusters
By EggVerse · · 5 min read

The biggest improvement most bubble shooter players can make is to stop aiming at the biggest group of matching bubbles and start aiming at the few bubbles that hold everything else up. Pop those, and every bubble hanging below them falls at once. Add bank shots off the side walls and a habit of checking your next bubble before you fire, and you will clear boards much faster. Here is how each of those works.
How a bubble shooter works
You fire coloured bubbles upward into a packed grid. When your shot touches three or more bubbles of the same colour, they pop. Any bubbles no longer connected to the top then drop off the board. Missed shots and the passing of time push the grid lower, and if it reaches the bottom line, the game ends. The details change between games, but that loop is almost universal.
Seven tips that work in almost any version
1. Look for the anchor, not the crowd. Before shooting, trace each cluster back to the ceiling. If a large mass hangs from two or three bubbles of one colour, those are your target. Dropping a hanging group is usually worth more points than popping a big matched group, and it clears more space.
2. Use the walls. A bubble bounces off a side wall at the same angle it hits it, like a pool ball off a cushion. Bank shots let you reach a gap that a straight line cannot, especially behind a ledge. Practise one or two reliable bank angles and reuse them.
3. Always check the next bubble. Most games show which bubble comes after the current one. If the current shot has no good target but the next one does, place the current bubble somewhere harmless so you are ready for the follow up.
4. Keep a parking spot. Pick an out of the way area, often along one side, where you can drop colours you cannot use. Stack them by colour so a parked pile can become a match later rather than a wall of clutter.
5. Do not seal off openings. A shot that blocks the only path to an upper area can cost you the board. Before firing, ask whether it closes a gap you will need.
6. Thin out a colour completely. Many games only hand you colours still on the board. Clearing every bubble of one colour means fewer colours in your queue, and your next shots match more often.
7. Watch the bottom, not just the top. Most losses come from ignoring the lowest bubbles while chasing a big drop higher up. When the grid gets close to the line, clear the low points first.
Try it in Egg Pop
On EggVerse, the bubble shooter is called Egg Pop. The bubbles are eggs in costumes, and you match three or more of the same costume to pop them. It runs free in the browser, alone or with one friend, and every tip above applies.

| Rule | In solo Egg Pop |
|---|---|
| Aim and shoot | Left and right arrows or A and D to aim, Space to shoot. On touch, hold Left or Right to aim and tap Shoot. |
| Matching | Three or more eggs of the same costume pop. Eggs no longer connected to the top fall. |
| Points | Each dropped egg scores 40, double the 20 for a matched egg, so tip 1 pays off here. Back to back matches build a combo multiplier, up to five times. |
| Next egg | Shown at the bottom, and you only ever get costumes that sit on an exposed edge of the board, so every egg has a possible target. |
| Misses | A shot that makes no match counts as a miss. After five, a new row pushes down. Each match takes one miss away. |
| Pressure | A meter also adds a row over time, a little faster each wave. Matches ease it. |
| Clearing the board | Worth a 500 point bonus, then a new wave starts. From wave four, a fifth costume joins the mix. |
That miss rule makes tip 3 and tip 4 more important than usual. A parked egg that makes no match still counts toward the five, so keep parking for when it really sets up the next shot.
Playing Egg Pop with a friend
Egg Pop also has a two player mode, and it is cooperative. You each get your own cannon at the bottom of one shared board, and you have three minutes to clear two boards together. Talk through who is setting up which drop, because one partner can open an anchor while the other finishes the match. Each of you also has a Color burst, which pops every egg matching your loaded costume and drops whatever was hanging from them, then needs 28 seconds to recharge. Save it for a costume that holds up a big cluster.
To start, open the game, choose to play with friends and send the invitation. Egg Pop rooms hold two players.
How do you get more points in a bubble shooter?
Drop clusters instead of only popping matches. In most games, including Egg Pop, bubbles that fall score more than ones that pop.
How do you make bank shots?
Aim at a side wall. The bubble leaves the wall at the same angle it arrived, so a shallower angle carries it further across the board.
Why do new rows keep appearing?
Most bubble shooters add rows after a number of missed shots, after a set time, or both. Egg Pop uses both: five misses or a full pressure meter.
Can two people play a bubble shooter together online?
Yes. Egg Pop has a two player mode where you share one board, each with your own cannon.
