  • Fixed: Read it once. Repeated artwork and play guides appear once within each day’s patches. Date links open the same continuous timeline, with the selected day in view.
  • Improved: Cleaner game previews. The extra description paragraph is removed from every game preview. The game’s main hook, instructions and play options remain.

Every patch from the same day now lives under one date, with a single sidebar entry that follows you through the whole day’s updates.

  • Fixed: One date in the sidebar. Patches published on the same day are grouped together. Pick September 12 to see all of its updates; the date stays highlighted until you reach another day. Existing links to individual patches still work.

Try a wall swap before your next Shadow Step run. Eggstra now explains the ways to play, brings your friends straight into a room, and keeps the date beside the update you are reading.

  • New: A little warm-up before the climb. Shadow Step posts now have a Ways to play guide. Try swapping your egg and shadow, check the keyboard and phone controls, and open the power guide to see what updrafts, surges and shields do.
  • Improved: Bring your crew, or take a solo shift. Play with friends opens a Shadow Step room for 2–4 players, ready for your invitations. Play solo starts your own run with no bots. Both options sit beside the rules, so the next step is easy to find.
  • Fixed: The date follows your reading. The patch-note sidebar now follows the update on screen as you scroll down or back up, including long posts and images that finish loading later. Updates published on the same day also show their titles so you can tell them apart.
  • Improved: Answers that are easier to find. Game rules and play options are available in the page text as soon as it loads. Article details, images and share descriptions now stay in sync when you move between Eggstra stories and patch notes.

  • Improved: Patch notes for the little things. Routine updates now appear in patch notes without adding an Eggstra story. The latest Friends update remains in patch notes.

  • Improved: Invite first. Pick together. Tap an empty egg to copy your invite. Hosts can change games before the round starts while keeping the same room code and everyone in the party. Ready up again when you have made your choice.
  • Improved: A place for every egg. Centered egg slots match the selected game’s player count. Invite and copy buttons celebrate when your link is copied, and keyboard controls are easy to find under How to play.
  • Improved: A little more personality. Navigation gets playful reactions, and the Rewards page now shows a simple coming-soon message.

Swap places with your shadow and race up a moonlit alley. Shadow Step is now an endless wall runner with falling enemies, faster climbs, true solo play and rare powers that help your friends.

Ways to play Shadow Step

Shadow Step is a free browser game where you run up two walls and swap places with your shadow to dodge obstacles. Play alone or with friends in a 2–4 player room on the same course. Climb as high as you can before your egg cracks.

What do updrafts, surges and shields do?
Updraft
Catch a teal vent for a brief burst of wind and a faster climb.
Shadow Surge
A rare pickup that blasts you higher and lets you pass through danger for a short time.
Shadow shield
A rare pickup that blocks one hit. After it breaks, your next hit cracks your egg.

With friends, one egg grabbing a pickup gives that power to every living player. Cracked eggs stay cracked.

  • New: Your shadow is your escape route. Shadow Sprint becomes Shadow Step: an endless climb between two apartment walls. Press Space or tap Swap to trade places with your own shadow and escape a hazard. Your egg runs sideways with its feet against the wall, using the same original character artwork.
  • Improved: Higher means harder. The climb gradually gets faster and obstacles get closer together as you gain height. One unprotected hit cracks your egg. There is no finish line: keep going until your shell gives out, then try to beat your own last climb.
  • New: Trouble drops in from above. Watch for warnings before diving pigeons and angry plant pots fall into your path. Flaming toasters, haunted shutters, swinging signs and fans join the climb, all set against a pixel-art alley full of warm windows, balconies and moonlight.
  • Improved: Solo means solo. Friends share the climb. Play solo with just your egg and its shadow, with no bots filling the screen. Or bring one, two or three friends into the same course. If an egg cracks, the survivors keep moving; the last survivor can keep climbing until they fall too.
  • New: Catch a draft. Treasure a lucky find. Teal vents give a visible burst of wind and a faster climb. Rare Shadow Surge pickups blast you through danger, while rare shields block one hit. In a friends room, one player collecting a power grants it to every living teammate. Each egg gets its own protection; cracked eggs stay cracked.
  • Improved: The whole night shift fits your screen. Portrait and landscape keep the illustrated alley and the original eggs. Height, pace, the menu and the Swap control stay inside the game. Keyboard keycaps make Space to swap and P to pause solo play easy to spot.
  • Improved: Every release gets its own notes. New public releases now bring their update to Eggstra! Eggstra! and patch notes together, so you can see what changed without waiting for a separate news post. Older updates keep their own links.
